Ealing’s Building Schools for the Future programme is in its final stage of procurement with Balfour Beatty Education and QED Education Environments now competing head to head to secure the £300 million contract to rebuild and refurbish the borough’s secondary and special schools.
They have been bidding for the contract since May and were selected to go forward to the next stage after rigorous competition. They are both now in detailed discussions with the council and are developing comprehensive plans for all aspects of the programme, including in-depth designs for The Cardinal Wiseman School in Greenford and Dormers Wells High School in Southall.
Final bids will be submitted in February 2010 with the winning consortium announced in early April 2010.
Seventeen existing schools are set to benefit from the investment and, subject to the necessary permissions, a new school will be built in Greenford on the former GlaxoSmithKline sports ground site on Oldfield Lane North. Construction is scheduled to start in October 2010 and finish in 2015.
