Planning policy in the borough is undergoing change.
The current planning policy is the ‘Adopted 2004 Unitary Development Plan’ (UDP). The UDP will still apply until 2013, after which new planning policy called the Local Development Framework (LDF) will come into place. The LDF is currently under development and will be a blueprint for the future of the area. It looks at subjects that affect residents and visitors in their everyday lives – ranging from transport to leisure facilities, and from housing to jobs.
Ealing Council has been working closely with experts from other organisations and has recently completed consultation on two LDF documents: Development Strategy 2026 and Development Management Policy 2026. These documents will guide decisions on planning applications after 2013.
The Development Strategy 2026 is a 15-year plan that sets out a vision for how Ealing should develop and how that vision fits within the wider London strategy. It will affect how, where and when the council will allow new housing, create new jobs, protect green spaces and our heritage, provide community facilities and ensure transport services are as they should be.
Another document, the ‘Development Sites Policy 2026’ will also form part of the LDF collection of documents. This document will specify the planning requirements for the most important development projects in the borough and will be presented for consultation in October 2010.
