Developer partners shortlisted for South Acton estate regeneration

Ealing Council has shortlisted two potential developer consortia for the regeneration of South Acton estate.  One of the developers will be recommended as preferred partner to the council’s Cabinet in January 2010.  It is expected that the partner will then be appointed during early 2010.

South Acton is the largest of Ealing Council’s estates.  The large tower block estate that exists today was built during a 40-year development which began in 1949.

In 1999, following consultation with the residents and the community, Ealing Council started a major investment programme on the estate.  Work done to the estate has included:

  • demolishing seven blocks to enable the redevelopment of 346 new homes built and managed by Catalyst Communities Housing Group for rent and shared ownership
  • improvements to six blocks
  • developing the new Oaktree Community Centre.

Due to the scale and complexity of the work it is likely that full regeneration of the estate will take at least ten years to complete.
