Local MP tours key development sites

Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq and Lord Kerslake, formally head of the Home Civil service, joined Cllr Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council, Tony Clements, Executive director of place, and the Ealing In London team on a tour of Acton Gardens and Berkeley Group’s Filmworks site last week.

The tour group was led around Acton Gardens by Leon Joseph, Regeneration officer for the development. Leon explained how the 15-year phased programme of regeneration, which is due for completion in 2027, has turned the estate from one where 80per cent of residents wanted to leave to one where 80per cent now want to remain. The development is being led by Ealing Council and Acton Gardens LLP, the joint venture between L&Q and Countryside.

Key stops on the tour were the new youth community centre, which is due to be officially opened by Rupa Huq on 6th July, the new community centre, and wall murals at the South Acton station Overground square.

Berkeley Homes, St George’s development team led by development directors Piers Clanford and Ed Noble, took the group onto the Filmworks site in central Ealing to get a birds-eye view of work in progress. The team explained about the timeline of the project, which is due to be complete in 2021 and the technical processes of connecting the original cinema’s art deco colonnades to the new construction.
